The summer will be dominated by two things. One, the change from El Nino to La Nina conditions and second, the highly negative AO and blocking pattern. All these suggest that extreme heat will be limited to perhaps late in the summer. While the cool weather will be across the northern tier of the country, this will lead to a storm track across the country which means severe storms and locally heavy rains. The number of tornadoes may also continue to increase in June and July because of the -AO will throw the trough into the Plains and that will lead to a volatile weather pattern.

The tropics will continue to get active in June and things will only get worse going through July and August. This will be a big tropical season with numerous storms and the potential for several major hurricanes that can hit the US coast.

With all the rain in the West, the vegetation has really grown this winter and spring. Once the dry season starts summer, the fire season will be very bad since there is plenty of fuel and dry weather this summer.
