Weekly Highlights April 27th to May 3rd

This week severe weather will be the topic of concern over multiple days. To start the week on Sunday, storms will continue to form in the Southern Plains into Oklahoma and Texas as a dry line continues to be the hot bed of severe storms and tornadoes. On Monday, severe storms will develop in the Northern Plains as they head into the Midwest and Great Lakes. With thesestorms hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes are all in play. It will be interesting to see where exactly this system goes if it stays north or comes through the eastern part of Iowa into Illinois and Wisconsin, and stretches down into the Mississippi Valley. The dew point temperatures in those areas on Monday will be very high with some areas seeing dew points in the 70’s, and having favorable conditions for these storms.  Tuesday, storms will develop from the Ohio Valley into Texas as more severe weather will develop. Another day of hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes. Wednesday, more storms from in the Southern Plains into Texas. There is a common trend this week with all the severe weather that will break out. Wednesday some rain and thunderstorms will break out in the Tennessee Valley into the Mid-Atlantic states. Thursday, storms will develop in the Midwest and stretch into the plains. Storms will likely develop later in the day. Also, on Thursday some storms will develop around Louisiana and look to be severe. I would not be surprised if that system produces some tornadoes with how high the dew points in the area will be. On Friday, the Northeast will see some rain and thunderstorms roll into the area. Those storms don’t look to be severe now but could end up becoming severe on Friday.

This week the higher elevations in the Rockies will see some snow. Those areas could see over 4’’ of snow from Tuesday into Friday. Warmer temps this week will stay to the South and Southwest. Cooler shots of air will come in this week in parts of the Northeast, Great Lakes, and Northern Plains, where some areas could see the 40’s and 50’s this week, and later in the week some possible morning temps around freezing. The rest of the US will see warmer temps.
