Weekly Highlights May 25th to 31st

This week as we kick off the holiday on Monday, we will continue to deal with the same weather pattern. Warm in the west, cool and wet in the east. This pattern seems to be on repeat over the last several weeks. Sunday, showers and thunderstorms will develop in the Southern Plains into the Mississippi Valley and Southeast. These storms will produce some heavy rains, hail, gusty conditions, and some tornadoes are possible. Portions of the Mississippi Valley could see over 2’’ of rain, and cause some localized flooding. For Memorial Day we will see storms and severe weather again in the Southern Plains and Mississippi Valley. Monday through Thursday, Southern Texas into Louisiana could see the potential for storms to develop each day. With these storms hail and gusty conditions are possible, as well as a few tornadoes, since the dew points will be high. Tuesday into Wednesday storms and severe weather will develop in the Ohio and Tennessee Valley’s. Those storms will continue to the east into the Northeast and will produce some rains and possibly another coastal storm next weekend. It is still a little early to tell so we will have to wait and see how this system progresses. Also, on Wednesday parts of the Upper Great Lakes could see some storms come into the area. Thursday more storms develop in the Plains and move into Northern Texas, bringing some severe weather where all hazards will be in play. Next weekend more storms develop in the Great Lakes and in parts of the Northeast, where several inches of rain and winds could impact the area, and will be an area of interest this week. Warmer weather will continue to stay to the south and west this week, while cooler temps will stay in the Northeast and Great Lakes. The Climate Prediction Center has portions of the Midwest and Northeast well below the average temps we should be seeing this time of year.
