This morning, we are seeing some rain showers come through the Carolinas and stretching back along the Gulf Coast. A notable warm-up is underway. Some milder weather is settling in today across much of the Plains into the Midwest and Northeast. Portions of the Plains will see temperatures climb into the 70s, an impressive mark for late February. While it will not be quite as warm the farther north and east you go, much of the Midwest and Northeast will still enjoy readings that are well above seasonal averages. This brief blast of mild air, however, will be short-lived. The warmer pattern is expected to last roughly 24 hours before colder air begins to push back in. By the weekend, winter will reassert itself across the Northern Plains and the Great Lakes, where colder temperatures and accumulating snow are likely to return. Conditions remain relatively quiet across the country today, with no major storm systems causing widespread disruption. Looking ahead to the weekend, attention turns to a clipper system expected to move through the Upper Great Lakes and into the Northeast on Saturday into Sunday.
