Daily Maps Wednesday March 4th, 2026

Today severe weather will be a major concern across portions of Texas, Oklahoma, and into the Mississippi Valley as a dynamic storm system moves across the central United States. Atmospheric conditions are becoming increasingly favorable for strong to severe thunderstorms as warm, moist air surges northward from the Gulf of Mexico. Storms that develop today may produce damaging winds, large hail, and the potential for tornadoes across parts of the Southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley.  This will not be a one-day event. The overall weather pattern suggests that the severe weather threat could persist over the next several days across the region as the storm system slowly progresses eastward and continued Gulf moisture fuels additional rounds of thunderstorms. Meanwhile, a different weather story is unfolding across the western United States. A series of disturbances moving inland from the Pacific will bring widespread rain to lower elevations while colder air supports snowfall across the higher elevations of the Rockies. Mountain locations can expect accumulating snow, which will help add to seasonal snowpack while creating periods of difficult travel through mountain passes.
