This morning, light snow showers have been moving through the northern portion of Michigan and extending into parts of Canada. While much of this precipitation is not reaching the ground, a light dusting of snow remains possible in some areas. Out west, the Pacific Northwest is experiencing widespread showers accompanied by gusty winds. This precipitation is particularly beneficial, as much of the region continues to deal with drought conditions. Rainfall today will provide some much-needed relief, although it comes with blustery conditions. Wind gusts both along the coast and inland are expected to reach 40 to 50 mph or higher at times, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions and choppy coastal waters. As we move into the central United States, the Plains will also see an increase in wind activity later today. Gusty conditions are expected to develop. Florida will see some afternoon thunderstorms across the central and eastern portions. These storms may bring brief heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds. Along the Florida coastline and extending northward into coastal areas of Georgia and South Carolina, breezy conditions will persist throughout the day, adding to the unsettled feel. Despite these active weather pockets, much of the country is enjoying milder temperatures. Spring-like conditions are spreading across large portions of the United States. However, colder air remains entrenched across the Northern Plains, Upper Great Lakes, and parts of the Northeast, where temperatures continue to reflect the season’s slower transition.
