This week’s weather pattern across the United States will feature a mix of active conditions, temperature swings, and regionally varied impacts as spring continues to evolve. Easter Sunday begins on a wet note for much of the eastern half of the country. From Maine down along the coast and into the Gulf states, widespread showers are expected, with thunderstorms more likely across the southern tier. This unsettled start to the day may impact outdoor plans, particularly across the Southeast where rainfall could be heavier at times. As the week progresses, a shift toward cooler conditions will take hold across the Northern Plains, Great Lakes, and portions of the Northeast. These areas will experience below-average temperatures overall, though brief periods of milder weather are expected to break through at times. Looking ahead to next weekend, a more noticeable warming trend is anticipated across the eastern United States, offering a more seasonable feel.
A clipper will move through the Great Lakes on Monday, bringing a mix of rain and snow. This system will continue into the Northeast Monday night into Tuesday, with light to moderate snowfall accumulations generally ranging from 1 to 4 inches. Some localized areas could see totals exceeding 4 inches, particularly where snowfall rates are briefly enhanced. Attention then turns to the Plains by Friday, where the setup may become more conducive for severe weather. Increasing warmth and humidity moving northward will interact with lingering cooler air to the north, creating a favorable environment for storm development. This clash of air masses could lead to strong to severe thunderstorms in parts of the region.
Out West, conditions remain relatively quiet overall. While much of the region continues to experience warm, dry weather with abundant sunshine, a system moving through on Friday into Saturday will bring a chance for showers, offering at least a brief interruption to the dry pattern. Meanwhile, the Midwest and Ohio Valley are expected to see showers develop on Saturday as another system moves through, adding to what will be an active week for several parts of the country.
